Born in Powell River and having lived in various places on the West Coast from Burnaby, White Rock, Prince Rupert, Victoria and Sooke, and now on Hornby Island, it is no surprise that the beautiful coastline, mountains, trees and water are my inspiration.
From a very early age, I always loved to draw and paint or do anything where I could create something artistic.
I started to take a serious interest in painting in my early 20's. I began taking lessons and workshops and not long after that I began showing my paintings in some local art shows in Burnaby and then on the Northern West Coast of B.C. In my 30’s I continued to paint and learn when I could while raising my children and working.
While living in Prince Rupert also in my early 30’s, I started taking night classes and weekend painting excursions along the Skeena River in various areas. I was honoured to be selected as a winner in a juried art show in Terrace for the Northern Region of BC and chosen to participate in the BC Festival of the Arts in Chilliwack that year.
I retired from being an Executive Assistant in a Complex Care Facility in 2010 and am now painting on a regular basis in my studio, Bent-Tree-Studio, located on Arthurs Road on Hornby Island, BC. Since retiring I have shown my work on Hornby Island in various venues with the Hornby Island Art Council.
I am mainly a self-taught artist and these days mostly paint with oils and watercolours. My inspiration definitely comes from the natural environment around me and is sure to keep me busy for some time.
Paintings are not for sale on this site but if you are interested in purchasing a painting, please send me an email at karenonhornby@icloud.com. I would love to have you come and visit my studio anytime you are on Hornby Island.
My studio is on Arthurs Road, between McLeod and Reicken Roads in the Sandpiper neighbourhood.
